The following are some comments/opinions . . .
- Roman Gabriel, Color Commentator, Carolina Panthers, & former
President of Charlotte Knights
"I have seen every mascot in the business, and Joby is head and
shoulders above them all. His commitment to the art of mascotting
is unsurrpassed and his loyalty to his character is phenomenol.
I am glad to see Joby get back into mascotting as he has a wealth
of experience which anyone serious in mascotting will benefit from."
- Paul Cameron, WBTV News Anchor, CBS affiliate
in Charlotte, NC
- taken from Charlotte area newspapers in August, 1992
"Homer the Dragon is still the best prospect playing at Knights
Castle. Why some major league club doesn't give the Great Green
One a shot in the big show baffles me? Homer is 'alive' in his
costume. His skits are hysterical. There are long-time mascots
around who can't touch him. He alone is worth a ticket to a game."
"I believe Homer's act would impress anyone. I also believe
the guy inside the suit is an impressive person. Joby Giacalone
has set professional standards for himself that few people is his
day and time could match."
- Gerry Craft, Regional Scouting Supervisor, Houston Astros
Baseball Club
- taken from letter written to Charlotte Knights management,
April, 1992
"I would like to file an official complaint to you and
your ballclub. How do you expect a scout to keep his mind focused
on the game when someone as funny as Homer is in the same ballpark?
It certainly has been my toughest assignment in 17 years of
professional baseball. Besides, the tears I shed laughing keep
smearing my notes!"
"In all seriousness, Homer grades Major League across
the board, the very best at what he does in this scout's eyes.
I only hope I cover the Southern League again this year, so I
can spend as much time in Charlotte as possible. My mother and
father are planning to travel from Ohio to Charlotte this summer
for the sole purpose of seeing Homer."
